Lavender Scent for Relaxation

The Scent of lavender holds the properties of calm and relaxation so it is a natural stress reliever. With its fresh fragrance, this herb is also a natural remedy for insomnia and anxiety because it produces calming, soothing effects. Brain-wave studies show that smelling lavender increases alpha waves in the brain that are associated with relaxation. It's so calming; it can help relieve tension-caused headaches! Lavender contains natural chemicals that deaden the body's pain receptors.

English lavender is the most commonly lavender. It is often called the “queen of herbs”. To the ancient mystics, lavender was known to promote relaxation and restore health. The name ‘lavender’ comes from the Latin verb meaning ‘to wash’. This was a favorite ingredient in the Greek and Roman herbal baths used to scent the water.

Lavender is a multi-purpose herb. The dried flowers of lavender are used to make sachets, potpourris, and decorative pillows. The aromatic oil is used in the making of cologne and perfume. Lavender is also used in bath products and cleansing facial steams. It is a popular ingredient in tea. Mixed with other herbs, such as lemon balm and chamomile, it also makes a delicious, soothing herbal tea. It is also used for decorative uses as potpourri, dried flower arrangements and wreaths. An infusion of lavender can soothe and heal insect bites.
