"Meditation Music" Is Your Temporary Retreat from Stress!
Music has been proven to be wonderful for meditation. It helps to provide a focus to help still the mind and bring it to specific states of consciousness.
Music which has a constant pulse of 60 beats per minute will induce the relaxation response. Each piece will trigger a specific emotion or frequency which corresponds to one of the major chakras. The regular tempo and harmonic sequence of tones helps to induce alpha states. The alpha state is a sense of relaxed alertness in which the brain absorbs and retains information more easily.
When choosing a piece of music as a focus for meditation, remember that the idea is to stay relaxed but alert, rather than to drift off to sleep with the music. Music for meditation can include gentle classical, New Age music, some type of instrumental music, or sounds of nature such as waves of the seashore.
